Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Software Developer in Test (SDET) for a remote, full-time position within the Veterans Affairs (VA) department. This 100% U.S.-based remote opportunity requires a Public Trust (MBI) clearance.

The role emphasizes strong programming skills (C#, .Net, Java, or Python) and a mix of manual and automated testing, Agile/Scrum experience, test planning and scripting, and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in C#, Java, or Python.
• Proven track record on complex software projects with high-quality deliverables.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum and SDLC.
• Proficiency writing and executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with version control (Git, Subversion).
• Understanding of SQL for validating data.
• Experience testing Web/API/services.
• Understanding of security testing practices and tools.
• Experience with functional, regression, integration, system, usability, and UAT testing.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Mentor junior testers and translate requirements into test scenarios.
• Experience with test management tools and DevOps practices.
• Ability to conduct test reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Knowledge of risk-based, exploratory, and context-driven testing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test procedures.
• Develop test plans, test schedule, and approach.
• Write test cases and scripts and identify data for test scenarios.
• Conduct walk-throughs with Test Managers, Requirement Leads, Project Managers, and Development Leads.
• Perform and lead tests to ensure proper operation and defect-free IT systems.
• Document and communicate test results and support issue resolution.
• Create daily test metrics and reporting.
• Occasionally perform other IT systems engineering activities.
• Provide technical solutions to difficult problems and ensure alignment with objectives.
• Mentor junior testers and review work for adequacy.
