Job summary

Travelers Companies, Inc. is seeking an experienced risk control professional to support underwriters with hazard assessment and control recommendations.

The role includes fieldwork across diverse accounts and significant collaboration with underwriting and risk control teams to manage complex risks. The ideal candidate will travel 20–50% of the time, provide technically detailed risk assessments, and stay current with regulatory changes and specialty areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management or related technical field.
• Advanced knowledge of insurance industry and business acumen.
• Certifications such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS.
• Technical aptitude and detail oriented.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with others.
• Experience working in a collaborative environment.
• Critical thinking and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide account knowledge related to hazards, controls and management to Underwriter.
• Maintain 20–50% onsite field presence with customers.
• Travel long distances and overnight travel as needed.
• Partner with Underwriting to select, retain and grow a profitable book of business.
• Write technically detailed risk assessment reports with clear recommendations.
• Identify uncontrolled exposures and advise on risk improvements.
• Stay current with technical subjects and regulatory changes.
• Serve as Subject Matter Expert in specialty areas to support the team.
