Job summary

The Travelers Risk Control Specialist team consists of professionals with deep risk management expertise in Ocean Marine, Inland Marine, Transportation, Workers’ Compensation. You will consult onsite with customers, support underwriting and Risk Control Lab partners, and mentor other specialists to advance skills.

You will travel as needed, perform highly complex risk evaluations, educate clients on risk reduction, and contribute to training and peer reviews to strengthen our discipline.

Qualifications

• Six or more years of risk control experience in Ocean Marine, Inland Marine, Workers’ Compensation, Industrial Hygiene, or Ergonomics.
• Certification in CIH, CPE, CSP, etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to simplify complex technical information.
• Coaching and talent development skills including ability to mentor and provide feedback.
• Understanding of risk control’s role in commercial lines and risk selection practices.
• Advanced interpersonal and influencing skills to build credibility with customers.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to meet expectations.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a science discipline.
• Four years of risk assessment/consulting experience in relevant disciplines.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a consistent field presence, with 20%–50% time with customers onsite or virtually.
• Conduct highly complex risk evaluations, identifying exposures and loss controls.
• Educate customers on risk management and influence adoption of changes.
• Mentor Risk Control consultants and newer Specialists; review survey reports for accuracy.
• Study emerging issues, track loss trends, and deliver targeted trainings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
