Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project Restoration Engineer to advance ecological restoration and water resource projects across the Great Lakes region and the United States.

The role offers hybrid or remote work, with preference for candidates near Chicago or Michigan offices. The candidate should have 4+ years of restoration design experience, a PE license, and expertise in HEC-RAS and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, Coastal) required.
• Four years of ecosystem restoration design experience required.
• P.E. certification (Professional Engineer) required.
• Ability to travel up to 20% for field data collection and client meetings.
• Experience with HEC-RAS and other hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software.
• Experience developing restoration construction plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Oversee technical tasks, schedules, budgets and deliverables for projects.
• Develop designs for stream and wetland restoration, living shorelines and nature-based infrastructure.
• Conduct field investigations and analyses to optimize restoration designs.
• Prepare construction drawings, specifications and contract documents.
• Coordinate permitting with regulatory agencies.
• Perform modeling and calculations to support design optimization.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate science and engineering.
• Provide construction-phase services and on-site problem solving.
• Engage with clients to communicate goals and progress.
• Mentor junior staff and support technical development.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
