Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project Restoration Engineer with expertise in ecosystem restoration design, hydraulics, and geospatial modeling. The role emphasizes stream and wetland restoration, living shorelines, and nature-based infrastructure across the Great Lakes and the U.S.

The position reports to the Lombard, Illinois office, offers full-time benefits, and supports hybrid or distributed work arrangements. Travel to project sites and client meetings is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Agricultural, Biological, Civil, Environmental, or Coastal Engineering).
• Four (4) years of ecosystem restoration design experience.
• P.E. certification (Professional Engineer).
• Ability to travel on short-term overnight trips up to 20%.
• Experience with HEC-RAS and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software.
• Experience developing restoration design construction plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Oversee project execution, schedules, budgets, and deliverables for assigned projects.
• Develop designs for stream and wetland restoration, living shorelines, and nature-based infrastructure.
• Conduct field investigations and analyses to optimize designs and meet requirements.
• Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Oversee permitting processes and collaborate with agencies for approvals.
• Perform modeling and calculations to support design optimization.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate science and engineering.
• Provide construction-phase services and on-site problem-solving.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to communicate goals and progress.
• Mentor junior staff and foster knowledge sharing.
• Follow all applicable regulations and standards.
