Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks a Staff-level Restoration Engineer to contribute to ecologic restoration across the Great Lakes and the United States. The role focuses on stream, wetland, and living shoreline design, with an emphasis on hydraulics, hydrology, and geomorphology.

Travel is about 20% and the position offers hybrid or distributed work arrangements. Candidates near our offices are preferred, but qualified applicants from other locations will be considered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a relevant field.
• 1 year of ecosystem restoration design experience.
• Knowledge of erosion control, stormwater, and civil site design.
• Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Supports development of engineering designs for restoration projects including stream and wetland design, living shorelines, and nature-based infrastructure.
• Performs field investigations to support projects and verifies compliance with plans and regulations.
• Prepares technical reports summarizing inspections, analyses, and fieldwork.
• Assists in permitting and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance.
• Performs construction oversight to monitor contractor performance and project adherence.
• Evaluates potential sites and restoration approaches for technical and financial viability.
• Helps prepare construction drawings and specifications reflecting designs and regulatory standards.
• Supports modeling to inform designs and evaluate scenarios.
