Job summary

AAPC is seeking a contract inpatient facility coder for a remote role. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of coding experience in inpatient services, with strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, DRGs, and HIPAA compliance.

Excellent communication, organization, and time management are required to meet project deadlines. Certification requirements include CIC, CCS, RHIT or RHIA, with proficiency in Excel, Word and internet tools.

Qualifications

• Active professional certifications CIC, CCS, RHIT or RHIA.
• Minimum 5 years of inpatient facility coding experience.
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and PCS coding guidelines.
• Strong anatomy, physiology and pharmacology knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; detail-oriented and deadline driven.

Responsibilities

• Accurately code inpatient medical records according to guidelines.
• Apply POA indicators and assign DRGs/APR-DRGs correctly.
• Abstract relevant client elements (providers, surgery dates, etc).
• Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement specialists as needed.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and data confidentiality.
