Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to serve as the technical authority for fire and life safety across utility-scale energy projects. You will establish standards, lead committees, and coordinate with AHJs, insurers, and engineering teams to ensure compliant and cost-effective delivery from design through commissioning.

The role is fully remote with travel up to 25% and requires 10+ years in fire protection engineering, a related bachelor’s degree, and strong

Qualifications

• 10+ years of fire protection engineering experience with energy infrastructure experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or closely related discipline.
• P.E. license in Fire Protection Engineering preferred.
• Experience working with AHJs to secure approvals and navigate permitting, design review, and inspection processes.
• Knowledge of NFPA, IBC, UL 9540/9540A, UL855.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on complex fire safety challenges and risk mitigation.
• Establish company-wide engineering standards and design criteria for fire protection.
• Lead national fire protection code and standards committees for energy storage fire safety.
• Interface with AHJs, fire marshals, insurers, and independent engineers as required.
• Develop basis-of-design documents and scopes for 3rd party EORs and equipment vendors.
• Oversee fire protection EORs, deliverable schedules, and budgets.
• QA/QC 3rd party work to ensure consistency with standards and project requirements.
• Collaborate with electrical/SCADA teams to ensure design consistency.
• Travel to in-person meetings as needed.
