Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for affirm’s production systems. You’ll blend traditional distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development to give teams a single place to understand, debug, and improve the health of their services.

This is a highly creative, hands-on role for someone who loves “vibe coding” — rapidly iterating, shipping, and refining with strong intuition— while still holding a very high bar for

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale with Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web apps using React or Vue.
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation and guidance with guardrails and citations.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature with elegant, extensible design.
• Proven track record of safely making large changes in a big codebase and building tooling.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly team goals and lead engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics on ideation and constraints.
• Identify and address project, process, technology or business issues and drive solutions.
• Support operations and availability by creating metrics and on-call readiness.
• Set or improve code review and design standards beyond the team.
• Mentor teammates and lead by example to develop talent.
