Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing is seeking a Senior Relay Technician to lead protection testing, calibration, and commissioning for medium- and high-voltage substations. You will guide crews, coordinate outages, and ensure safe, reliable operation of protection schemes across transmission and distribution systems.

With 5+ years of hands-on relay experience and a NETA-certified background, you’ll act as a technical resource, mentor field technicians, and contribute to project estimates and customer

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in protective relaying for utility substations.
• Demonstrated experience testing medium-to-high-voltage protection systems (5kV–500kV).
• Strong knowledge of microprocessor-based relays and modern relay test platforms.
• Ability to interpret protection diagrams and AC/DC schematics.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to travel and lift up to 70 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Lead job briefings and safety tailboards in the field.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Test and validate transmission and distribution protection schemes (distance, differential, overcurrent, etc.).
• Verify control circuits for transformers, breakers, feeders, capacitors, and reactors.
• Support outage planning, energization, and restoration activities.
• Perform event analysis, relay target review, and disturbance investigations.
• Mentor onsite technicians and coordinate with project managers and customers.
• Create and maintain accurate test reports and field documentation.
• Participate in job walks, project estimating, and customer technical discussions.
