Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks a Senior Relay Technician to ensure safe, reliable operation of medium- and high-voltage substations through advanced protective relay testing, commissioning, and maintenance. You will lead field crews, guide outage work, and mentor junior technicians across the region.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in protective relaying, experience with transmission and distribution protection schemes, and NETA/technical credentials.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience in protective relaying for utility substations.
• Demonstrated experience testing medium- to high-voltage protection systems.
• Strong knowledge of microprocessor-based relays.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety briefings and field culture to ensure safety first in all tasks.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning on HV systems.
• Test and validate protection schemes including distance, differential, overcurrent, and bus protection.
• Verify control and protection circuits for transformers, breakers, feeders, capacitors, and reactors.
• Support outage planning, energization, and system restoration activities.
• Conduct event analysis, relay target reviews, and disturbance investigations.
• Lead and mentor onsite technicians and coordinate with PMs and utility customers.
• Create and maintain test reports and field documentation.
