Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing is seeking a Senior Relay Technician to lead protective relay testing, calibration, and commissioning for medium- and high‑voltage substations. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of hands-on relaying experience, strong knowledge of microprocessor‑based relays, and the ability to guide crews through outages while upholding safety and quality.

Travel is regional with potential for extended assignments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on protective relaying experience in substations.
• Experience testing 5kV–500kV protection systems.
• Knowledge of microprocessor-based relays.
• Familiarity with modern relay test platforms.
• Understanding of utility safety rules and energized work practices.
• Able to interpret wiring and logic drawings; valid driver’s license; travel and lifting up to 70 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Lead job briefings and safety tailboards in the field.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Test and validate transmission and distribution protection schemes.
• Verify control and protection circuits for transformers and breakers.
• Support outage planning, energization, and restoration activities.
• Create and maintain test reports and field documentation.
• Lead and mentor onsite technicians; coordinate with project managers and customers.
• Participate in job walks, estimating, and customer discussions.
• Serve as a technical resource and trainer for developing relay technicians.
