Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks a Senior Relay Technician to lead testing, commissioning, and maintenance of medium- and high-voltage protection systems at utility substations.

The role emphasizes safety, technical leadership, and hands-on field execution across regional sites. You will perform relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and review protection schemes while mentoring onsite technicians and coordinating with project managers and utility customers. Travel regionally is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on protective relaying experience in utility substations.
• Experience testing 5kV–500kV protection systems.
• Strong knowledge of relay schemes and testing standards.
• Experience leading field teams and coordinating outage work.

Responsibilities

• Lead job briefings and safety tailboards on site.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Test and validate protection schemes (distance, differential, overcurrent, bus protection).
• Verify circuits for transformers, breakers, feeders, capacitors, reactors.
• Mentor onsite technicians and coordinate with managers and customers.
• Create and maintain test reports and field documentation.
• Participate in job walks, estimating, and customer discussions.
