Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks an experienced Senior Relay Technician to ensure safe, reliable operation of medium- and high-voltage substations through advanced protective relay testing, commissioning, and maintenance. You will lead field teams, guide outage work, and advance relay schemes and substation energization.

We value a strong utility background, NETA accreditation, and hands-on experience with protection and control. Regional travel is required with company-provided vehicle support.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience in protective relaying for utility substations.
• Test and commission protection schemes for 5kV–500kV systems.
• Strong knowledge of microprocessor-based relays and relay schemes.

Responsibilities

• Lead job briefings and safety tailboards in the field.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Test and validate transmission and distribution protection schemes: distance, differential, overcurrent, breaker failure.
• Verify control circuits for transformers, HV breakers, feeder relays, capacitors, reactors.
• Support outage planning, energization, and restoration activities.
• Perform event analysis and disturbance investigations.
• Mentor onsite technicians and coordinate with project teams and customers.
• Create and maintain accurate test reports and field documentation.
• Participate in job walks, estimating, and customer technical discussions.
• Serve as a technical resource and trainer for relay technicians.
