Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Relay Field Technician in our Field Engineering department to calibrate, install, maintain, and repair protective relays and related equipment for safe, reliable grid operation. You will manage complex control systems, SCADA interfaces, and substation protection schemes in diverse environments.

Ideal candidates bring at least 5 years of field experience with commissioning, relay calibration, and testing, plus strong troubleshooting, leadership, and communication skills

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.
• Experience in substation design, construction, commissioning, and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Automation equipment installation is desirable.
• Proficiency with 3-phase power systems and protection and control schemes; ability to read wiring diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project scope and plan commissioning, schedule resources, and lead the team to complete tests without service interruptions.
• Interpret substation drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Write procedures and test plans for maintenance and construction activities.
• Test relays and verify metering, alarms, and function switches.
• Lead and perform routine troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment; commission substations and pilot channel equipment.
• Provide project technical support to field service personnel and mentor junior staff.
• Act as SME in protective relaying and serve as technical lead for small project teams.
