Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Relay Field Technician in our Field Engineering department to calibrate, install, maintain, and repair protective relays and related equipment for reliable electric grid operation. You will lead testing activities, interpret schematics, and provide technical mentorship while ensuring safety and quality on site.

The role demands at least 5 years of field experience with relays, substation testing, and project support.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.
• Experience in substation protection & control engineering, SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Automation equipment installation and testing
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with diverse teams and clients
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic PC skills

Responsibilities

• Plan commissioning, allocate resources, and provide team leadership to complete tests on schedule with no service interruptions.
• Interpret substation drawings such as single line diagrams and wiring diagrams.
• Write procedures and test plans supporting maintenance and construction activities.
• Perform testing: read/verify voltage and current inputs, calibrate relays, trip testing, verify alarms and function switches.
• Lead and perform troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment; commission new substations and related equipment.
• Provide technical support to Field Service personnel and mentor junior staff.
• Serve as subject matter expert in protective relaying in the field and act as technical lead for small projects.
