Job summary

B&B Concrete Contractors is seeking an experienced Reinforcing-Steel Estimator/Detailer to support estimating, detailing and preconstruction activities. The candidate will review structural drawings, perform takeoffs, develop labor and material pricing, and provide management with reliable cost estimates and risk assessments.

The role requires hands-on reinforcement-steel experience, the ability to work with project teams, and the capability to establish estimating standards and production-rate

Qualifications

• 7+ years reinforcing-steel industry experience
• Experience estimating reinforcing steel
• Experience detailing reinforcing steel or reviewing placing drawings
• Experience with large commercial, industrial, wastewater, infrastructure or concrete-intensive projects
• Experience estimating projects involving substantial reinforcing-steel tonnage
• Strong reading of structural drawings and specifications
• Familiarity with reinforcement fabrication and field placement
• Knowledge of ACI and CRSI requirements and industry practices
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, RebarCAD, aSa, Tekla, SDS/2 or comparable software
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills

Responsibilities

• Perform complete reinforcing-steel quantity takeoffs from drawings and specs
• Develop estimates for material, fabrication, detailing, placing labor, equipment and other costs
• Establish labor hours and production assumptions based on project conditions
• Analyze bar sizes, tonnage, congestion, couplers, dowels and other reinforcing requirements
• Review plans for scope gaps and constructability concerns
• Identify project risks and potential cost exposures before bid submission
• Prepare conceptual, preliminary and final estimates
• Assist in establishing final bid strategy and selling price
• Solicit and evaluate material, fabrication, freight and subcontractor pricing
• Maintain organized estimate documentation and assumptions
• Review reinforcing steel placing drawings and coordinate RFIs
• Coordinate with project management and field personnel to resolve detailing issues
• Participate in preconstruction meetings and project strategy discussions
• Establish standardized estimating procedures
• Mentor junior estimators and detailers as department grows
• Develop estimating templates and production-rate databases
• Help select and implement estimating/detailing software
• Establish quality-control procedures for takeoffs and drawings
