Job summary

HBK - Hottinger Brüel & Kjær is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Simulation Workbench (SimWB) product. The role focuses on hands-on development in real-time Linux, owning features end-to-end from design through release while interfacing with automotive, aerospace, and defense hardware.

You will work closely with the Principal Engineer to extend capabilities and fix customer issues. You will design and implement features, maintain I/O support for FPGA cards and industry protocols, and

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience in a Linux environment.
• Strong C and C++, with working knowledge of Java and Python.
• Experience owning features from design through release, including post-release issues.
• Comfort working close to hardware, reading datasheets, debugging software/hardware integration.
• Scripting ability in Python or Bash for test and automation work.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test features across the SimWB product in a real-time Linux environment.
• Develop and maintain I/O support for our cards, including FPGA cards, and for protocols like EtherCAT, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, and serial/Ethernet.
• Debug issues spanning software and hardware using analyzers and lab equipment.
• Contribute to the SimWB release process: build, validation, packaging.
• Support the Support and Applications Engineering teams on customer escalations in your areas of ownership.
• Write and maintain tests and documentation for maintainability.
• Participate in design and code review, and help bring newer engineers up to speed.
