Job summary

ABB Installation Products Inc. in the United States seeks a Senior R&D Engineer to lead the development of next-generation medium voltage switchgear solutions.

You will transform complex engineering challenges into innovative products, mentor junior engineers, and drive projects from concept to production, ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability in power distribution. You will collaborate with factory teams and global partners to deliver industry-leading designs while maintaining compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of R&D experience in electrical power equipment or similar.
• Experience in mechanical design of Low/Medium Voltage ANSI switchgear or similar equipment.
• Knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, and UL standards.
• Experience executing type tests at internal/external laboratories.
• Working knowledge of simulation software (dielectric, thermal, structural).
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and PLM tools (SolidWorks or Creo) with Windchill preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
• Candidates must have work authorization to work in the US.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of new product designs (Mechanical/Electrical).
• Collaborate with Product Managers and R&D Engineers across product life cycle.
• Validate product robustness using simulations and testing.
• Organize and conduct design reviews for feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
• Review test plans/results to ensure performance and compliance with standards.
