Job summary

ABB Inc. in Richmond, VA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead design and engineering of MV switchgear systems, including AIS and GIS solutions, with a focus on power electronics and protection/control philosophies.

The role demands a degree in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years in power electronics design, and proven project leadership within R&D. You will contribute to IP generation and collaborate across technology, product, and solution development to advance ABB's power conditioning

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering; postgraduate qualifications desirable.
Advanced expertise in Power Electronics with 5+ years' experience.
Proven project leader with ability to guide junior colleagues.
Strong understanding of 3-phase systems; knowledge of AutoCAD or simulation tools advantageous.
Work authorization to work in USA.

Responsibilities

Lead design and engineering of MV switchgear systems (AIS/GIS).
Develop electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control philosophies.
Specify components: breakers, contactors, relays, busbars, CTs/VTs, interlocks.
Perform short-circuit, protection coordination, arc-flash, and dielectric analyses.
Interpret customer specs and tailor switchgear solutions.
Integrate latest developments in tools, technologies, and methodologies.
Document findings and support IP strategy.
Contribute to IP generation in your area of specialization.
