Job summary

Markel Corporation is seeking a Senior Claims Examiner to resolve moderate to high complexity claims in professional liability. You will handle coverage analysis from enquiry to liability assessment and manage litigation with guidance from the Claims Manager.

The role requires strong written and oral communication, ability to work independently, and travel about 10%. Base salary is commensurate with education, experience, and location, with incentive opportunities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional liability claims or litigation experience.
• Excess liability experience is a plus.
• College degree or JD preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and summarize complex issues and develop action plans.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, negotiate and settle complex professional liability claims.
• Analyze coverage under primary and excess policies; draft routine and complex coverage letters; communicate positions to stakeholders.
• Manage nationwide litigation; appoint and manage defense counsel; work toward expeditious resolutions.
• Inform underwriting of significant developments and influence claims strategy where needed.
• Support vendor management, disbursement and legal collections processes with defense counsel.
