Job summary

Markel Corporation invites applications for a Senior Claims Examiner to resolve moderate to high complexity professional liability claims and oversee related litigation nationwide. You will negotiate, analyze coverage, and coordinate with defense counsel to achieve timely, cost-effective resolutions.

The role requires strong written and oral communication, experience in professional liability, and the ability to work independently while mentoring others.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional liability claims or litigation experience preferred.
• Excess liability experience a plus.
• College degree and/or professional designation required, JD preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and convey summations of complex issues both verbally and in writing.
• Experience in determining contractual obligations, insurance coverage analyses, and investigations.
• Ability to manage complex litigation, set loss and expense reserves and evaluate settlement values.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, negotiate and settle complex professional liability claims nationwide (real estate brokers, title agents, etc.).
• Analyze coverage under primary and excess policies; draft coverage correspondence and manage coverage litigation.
• Manage nationwide litigation; coordinate defense counsel and budget; support defense and collections teams.
• Communicate with underwriting to manage claims and alert significant developments.
• Provide information to Claims Manager on adverse developments and case issues affecting the product line.
• Collaborate with team members and contribute to training and development of other examiners.
• Participate in agent functions and meetings as required.
