Job summary

Markel is seeking an experienced claims professional to handle complex professional liability claims and related coverage analyses. You will negotiate, settle and manage nationwide litigation, directing defense counsel and coordinating with underwriting as needed.

The role emphasizes analytical summary of complex issues, clear written and verbal communication, and collaboration within the Professional Liability Division. Travel is required, and leadership development is also provided.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional liability claims or litigation experience preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and convey summations of complex issues, orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, negotiate and settle complex professional liability claims for lawyers, accountants and financial advisors insureds.
• Analyze coverage under primary and excess professional liability policies; draft related correspondence; manage coverage litigation.
• Manage nationwide litigation; direct defense counsel and coordinate economical resolution.
• Alert underwriting to significant developments and coordinate with Claims Manager on adverse issues.
• Support and train other examiners; participate in agent-related functions as required.
• Maintain adherence to Markel’s guidelines and reporting requirements.
