Job summary

Markel is seeking a claims examiner to resolve moderate to high complexity professional liability claims nationwide. You will investigate, negotiate, and manage litigation, communicate with stakeholders, and support the Claims Manager.

Requirements include 3+ years of professional liability experience, a college degree and JD preferred. Travel ~10%. Competitive benefits, salary range $73,100–$152,400, and annual incentive potential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional liability claims or litigation experience preferred.
• Accurate analysis and communication of complex issues in writing and speech.
• Ability to self-manage a caseload and work with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, negotiate and settle complex claims including primary and excess professional liability.
• Analyze coverage and draft coverage determinations and correspondence.
• Manage litigation nationwide and oversee defense counsel and related costs.
• Communicate with underwriting and Claims Manager about significant developments.
• Train and mentor other team members and participate in agent meetings.
