Markel seeks an experienced professional liability claims professional to resolve complex claims and oversee litigation. You will analyze coverage, negotiate with counsel, and manage high-exposure matters nationwide, reporting to the Claims Manager and coordinating with underwriting as needed.

The role requires a JD (preferred) and strong communication, analytical, and team skills. Travel about 10% and collaboration across departments are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional liability claims or litigation experience.
• JD preferred; college degree required.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Sound understanding of insurance coverage under professional liability policies.
• Ability to analyze and convey complex issues and develop action plans.
• Experience in determining contractual obligations and investigations.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10%.

Responsabilités

• Investigate, negotiate and settle complex professional liability claims for lawyers, accountants and financial advisors insureds.
• Analyze coverage under primary and excess policies; draft coverage correspondence and communicate positions.
• Manage nationwide litigation; appoint and manage defense counsel; drive timely resolution.
• Coordinate with underwriting on significant developments; assist vendor management and collections teams.
• Communicate updates to Claims Manager on adverse developments and impact on lines.
• Collaborate in a team environment; convey summations of complex issues and plan actions.
• Participate in agent functions and contribute to training and development of examiners.
