Job summary

Markel seeks an experienced claims professional to resolve moderate to high complexity liability claims, from coverage inquiry through liability assessment and quantum analysis, with mediation or litigation as needed. You will work with minimal oversight and mentor peers while communicating developments to stakeholders.

The role requires JD or equivalent and strong written/oral communication, with travel about 10%.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional liability claims or litigation experience preferred.
• JD or professional designation preferred; college degree required.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and convey summations of complex issues.
• Travel approximately 10% to meet business needs.
• Experience with insurance coverage analyses and litigation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, negotiate and settle complex professional liability claims for lawyers, accountants and financial advisors insureds.
• Analyze coverage under primary and excess policies; draft coverage communications; manage coverage litigation.
• Manage nationwide litigation; direct defense counsel; seek expeditious, economical resolutions.
• Coordinate with underwriting to monitor claims and flag significant developments.
• Provide information to Claims Manager on adverse developments and strategic issues.
• Contribute to team training and act as a referral point for colleagues.
• Participate in agent functions and internal claims initiatives.
