Job summary

Markel is seeking a Claims Specialist to resolve moderate to high complexity professional liability claims, including coverage analysis and quantum evaluation. The role involves managing nationwide litigation, directing defense counsel, and coordinating with underwriting and internal stakeholders.

You will train peers, participate in agent meetings, and support initiatives under the Claims Manager. Travel about 10% is expected, with the ability to work with minimal oversight.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional liability claims or litigation experience preferred.
• College degree and/or professional designation required, JD preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Sound understanding of insurance coverage for professional liability.
• Ability to analyze complex issues and develop action plans.
• Travel required approximately 10%.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, negotiate and settle complex professional liability claims.
• Analyze coverage and draft coverage correspondence; manage coverage litigation.
• Manage nationwide litigation; direct defense counsel and control costs.
• Communicate with underwriting; update Claims Manager on developments.
• Train and mentor fellow team members; participate in agent meetings.
