Job summary

Cenovus Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the US refineries' Process Safety competency and policy application across the US region.

The role will act as the US SME and work with Canadian counterparts to advance Cenovus risk methodologies (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID) and oversee training, standards, and third-party studies in support of PSM compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• 16+ years in a Process Safety role or closely related discipline.
• 10+ years in Oil and Gas/Petrochemicals considered an asset.
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs; LOPA analyses.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety as a competency across the US Refineries—owning methodology development, regulatory and code interpretation, and industry policy representation
• Build and develop competent, capable Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID, etc.)
• Design, deliver, and maintain a comprehensive risk-training suite for site personnel, including QA/QC of site deliverables and the ongoing development of new team members
• Champion and safeguard key risk standards across the organization (PHA standard, RMP compliance, etc.)
• Directly conduct/coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis, etc.)
• Drive and support assurance audits within the PSM space
