Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead Process Safety competency for US Refineries and to support policy development beyond the US. This role will be the US Region's SME and work with Canadian counterparts on PSM expertise.

You will develop engineers in Cenovus Risk Methodology, conduct HAZOP/LOPA analyses, and drive risk training, audits, and key safety standards across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field is required.
• 16+ years in a Process Safety role or closely related discipline required.
• 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals is asset.
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs; translate to SIL requirements.
• Experience in process safety information auditing or RAGAGEP verification.
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes & US regulations; RMP compliance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across US Refineries; own methodology development, regulatory and code interpretation, and industry policy representation.
• Build and develop Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design, deliver, and maintain a risk-training suite for site personnel; QA/QC of deliverables and mentoring.
• Champion risk standards (PHA, RMP) across the organization.
• Coordinate third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Drive assurance audits within the PSM space.
