Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Safety Engineer to apply safety engineering principles across programs in a DoD context. You will develop and certify system safety artifacts in line with MIL-STD-882, DO-178, DO-254 and related standards.

The role requires strong analytical skills, experience with safety analyses such as FMEA/FMECA, and the ability to communicate effectively with leadership and customers. U.S. Citizenship and Secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in STEM with 8+ years of relevant experience; Master’s with 6+; PhD with 4+.
• Experience applying MIL-STD-882 and safety analyses (PHA, FHA, SHAs, FMEA).
• Experience using DO-178/DO-254 or JSSSEH for design development.

Responsibilities

• Apply MIL-STD-882 safety engineering principles across programs.
• Prepare safety analyses and safety artifacts per standards.
• Develop, review, and approve system safety requirements and artifacts.
• Communicate project status to leadership and teams.
