Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a senior safety engineer to lead system safety activities across the lifecycle. You will develop safety requirements, perform hazard analyses, and collaborate with systems, software, hardware, integration/test, and reliability teams to ensure safety is embedded in design decisions and verification plans.

The role requires an active Secret clearance (or higher) and a strong background in safety analyses (PHA/FHA/SSA/FMEA/FTA).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 8+ years of experience, or Master's with 6+ years, or PhD with 4+ years
• Experience in systems engineering and/or systems safety engineering on complex systems
• Experience performing or supporting safety or reliability analyses (hazard analysis, FMEA/FMECA, FTA)
• Active US Government Secret clearance or higher (background investigation within 6 years or Continuous Evaluation)

Responsibilities

• Perform system safety engineering activities across the lifecycle, including hazard identification, analysis, tracking, and mitigation
• Develop and maintain system and subsystem safety requirements, and ensure proper allocation, implementation, and verification
• Conduct safety analyses (PHA, FHA, SSA, FMEA/FMECA, FTA) as applicable
• Plan and execute safety validation activities with defined acceptance criteria and supporting data
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to incorporate safety into design decisions and verification plans
• Prepare safety documentation and artifacts for reviews and customer deliverables
• Present safety findings and recommendations to program and customer stakeholders and support issue resolution
