Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal System Safety Engineer to join the Safety Engineering team. Location options include Roy, Utah or Huntsville, Alabama.

Responsibilities include designing safety features, generating safety documentation, and audits to ensure compliance with MIL-STD-882E and DO-178/DO-254 standards. The role requires active DoD Secret clearance, 8+ years with a BS, 6+ years with an MS, or 4+ years with a PhD, and a strong background in software safety

Qualifications

• 8 years of experience with a Bachelors degree in science/engineering, 6 years with a Masters, or 4 years with a Doctorate.
• Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application.
• 2+ years in DO-178 or DO-254 for design development.
• 2+ years of C/C++, Java or similar software development experience.
• 2+ years using MIL-STD-882E for hazard analyses across system safety domains.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Influence design to meet safety requirements for Northrop Grumman products.
• Analyze and recommend safety features in system design to control or eliminate hazards.
• Create functional specs and safety requirements for assigned systems.
• Develop safety documents to support customer and test/operational needs.
• Perform audits of safety programs and report on effectiveness.
