Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Rancho Bernardo, CA, seeks a Sr. Principal Systems Safety Engineer to apply systems safety engineering to complex aerospace programs. You will identify hazards, perform analyses, and validate safety requirements across the lifecycle.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Engineering with 8+ years of related experience, including FHA/PHAs, FMEA/FMECA, FTA, and safety case development. Active DoD Secret clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related STEM required.
• 8+ years of systems engineering and/or systems safety engineering experience.
• Experience performing safety or reliability analyses (hazard analysis, FMEA/FMECA, FTA).
• Active DoD Secret clearance required (ability to obtain higher clearances if needed).

Responsibilities

• Perform system safety engineering activities across the lifecycle, including hazard identification, analysis, tracking, and mitigation.
• Develop and maintain system safety requirements and ensure allocation, implementation, and verification.
• Conduct safety analyses (PHA, FHA, SSA, FMEA/FMECA, FTA) and safety validation activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into design decisions and verification plans.
• Prepare safety documentation and artifacts for internal reviews and customer deliverables.
• Present safety findings and recommendations to stakeholders and support issue resolution.
