Job summary

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems seeks a Principal or Senior Principal Systems Safety Engineer to join the Specialty Engineering Team in Woodland Hills, CA. This fully onsite role requires a Secret clearance and a US citizen capable of supporting MIL-STD-882 and safety analyses.

You will develop and certify systems, perform hazard analyses, and generate safety artifacts while collaborating across teams. A 9/80 schedule is described and relocation is potentially available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5+ years of relevant experience for Principal level; advanced degrees reduce experience requirements.
• Demonstrated application of MIL-STD-882 and analyses (PHA, FTA, SAF, etc.).
• Experience with DO-178/DO-254 or JSSSEH for design development and safety artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Apply safety engineering principles per MIL-STD-882 and software safety per JSSSEH.
• Support development and certification to DO-178/DO-254 standards.
• Prepare System Safety analyses and artifacts (PHAs, FHAs, SHAs) and hazard tracking.
• Identify safety issues and drive mitigation actions.
• Develop, review, and approve safety requirements and artifacts.
• Communicate project status to CAM and IPT Lead.
