Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems seeks a Principal Systems Safety Engineer to influence safety design on the Sentinel program, based primarily in Roy, UT, with opportunities in Colorado Springs, CO. The role requires deep system safety expertise and the ability to work under secret-level security clearance requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university.
• Active U.S. Government Secret clearance; ability to obtain SAP approval.
• At least 1 year using MIL-STD-882E for hazard analysis.
• Experience with Safety Assessment Reports.
• Experience with C/C++, Java and OO design.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.

Responsibilities

• Influence design to meet safety expectations and requirements for Northrop Grumman products.
• Independently analyze and recommend design features that mitigate hazards.
• Participate in design of products, systems, support equipment, and facilities.
• Create functional specifications and establish safety requirements for assigned systems.
• Develop safety documents to support customer and test/operational range requirements.
• Perform audits of operational areas and report on the effectiveness of the system safety program.
• Evaluate interrelationships between system safety requirements and concept design and development requirements to ensure a cost‑effective program.
• Generate or review design artifacts supporting system safety analyses for weapons system design, flight test, and flightworthiness of complex systems.
