Job summary

AppFolio is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Permissions team to design and build the authorization platform that governs access across all AppFolio products. You will ensure fast, reliable permission checks and lead migrations of legacy logic to a modern system.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product and security teams, and own end-to-end quality, testing, and observability to keep data safe and workflows trustworthy at scale.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience developing and operating production systems.
• Fluency with AI coding agents and willingness to apply AI in development workflows.
• Proficiency in Ruby on Rails, Go, or React with TypeScript, or ability to become proficient quickly.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the authorization platform including roles, policies, and checks.
• Improve permission check performance and reliability at scale.
• Develop interfaces and tooling for other teams to add access control safely.
