Job summary

AppFolio seeks a Senior Software Engineer on the Permissions team to build the authorization platform that decides who can do what across all AppFolio products. You will design security foundations and partner closely with multiple teams to keep customer data safe and workflows trustworthy.

You will mentor engineers, drive end-to-end platform design, and migrate older permissions logic to modern services while upholding strong testing and review practices.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Fluency with AI coding agents and willingness to learn for building apps.
• Deep experience with Ruby on Rails, Go, or React with TypeScript.
• Track record designing and owning non-trivial Platform systems end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the authorization platform—the roles, policies, and access checks that other teams build on top of.
• Improve speed and reliability of permission checks as usage grows and set performance goals.
• Build interfaces, libraries, and tooling for easy integration of access control across features.
• Lead migration of legacy permissions logic to the modern authorization platform.
• Raise the technical bar through design reviews and clear proposals.
