Job summary

GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Engineer to drive high-performance, low-maintenance platforms as we transform IT to a technology-driven organization. You will lead a technical roadmap, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product teams to deliver scalable solutions.

The role emphasizes architectural leadership, platform engineering excellence, and continuous improvement across enterprise systems, with a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in complex system design and data pipelines, with focus on scale and performance.
• Hands-on with Docker and Kubernetes for modern platforms.
• Experience with governance and policy engines such as Cloud Custodian and Open Policy Agent (OPA).
• Proficiency in at least one OOP language such as Go or Python.
• Knowledge of both relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
• Strong understanding of web service integration (REST/SOAP) and enterprise middleware.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to lead projects from the front.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to increase delivery velocity.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to solve complex problems.
• Ensure quality, usability, and performance of solutions across platforms.
• Mentor engineers and foster technical excellence and learning.
• Influence executives and disseminate best practices across teams.
• Forecast costs and resources, integrating into business plans.
• Support on-call and operation responsibilities.
