Job summary

Humana is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to sustain a healthy, reliable NBA platform end-to-end. You will understand every layer of the stack—from Java/Drools to React/Node/Postgres, Node.js orchestration with Temporal, Kafka backbone, and Databricks data pipelines—and implement improvements across components.

You’ll monitor production, optimize performance, write tests, and contribute to on-call and incident response.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Polyglot codebase: Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.
• Distributed systems concepts including APIs, event patterns, and failure handling.
• Hands-on observability: logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Cloud infrastructure experience (Azure or equivalent) with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• A maintenance- and reliability-minded approach with clean, well-documented code.
• Clear communicator able to explain technical topics to engineers and non‑engineers.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Stack Maintenance — Maintain and support services across the full platform; knowledge across components.
• Reliability Engineering — Monitor health, investigate issues, and resolve bottlenecks and scaling constraints.
• Feature Implementation — Design and ship focused features and enhancements for platform components.
• Observability — Enhance logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for production visibility.
• Performance and scale — Profile and tune components under load and plan scaling.
• Quality — Write tests, review code, and uphold engineering standards.
• Incident response — Participate in on-call, perform root-cause analysis, and drive durable fixes.
• Collaboration — Work with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence on long-term ownership.
