Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to keep the NBA platform healthy, reliable, and maintainable for the long term.

You will work across the stack—from Java/Drools to React/Node/Postgres and Databricks pipelines—diagnosing issues, improving reliability, and implementing focused enhancements. You will maintain and support services, monitor platform health, and design scalable features across components.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Comfortable working across a polyglot codebase; read, debug, and extend code in Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems: APIs, event-driven patterns, asynchronous processing, and failure handling.
• Hands-on experience with observability practices — structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure (Azure or equivalent) with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• A maintenance-and-reliability mindset: you treat operational health and clean, well-documented code as first-class work.
• Clear communicator who can explain a system or an incident to engineers and non-engineers alike.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Stack Maintenance — Maintain and support services across the full platform; build and keep current knowledge of each component and how they integrate.
• Reliability Engineering — Monitor platform health, investigate production issues, and resolve bottlenecks, failures, and scaling constraints.
• Feature Implementation — Design and ship focused features, enhancements, and technical improvements across platform components.
• Observability — Extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for clear production visibility.
• Performance and scale — Profile and tune components under load; help the platform scale as member volume grows.
• Quality — Write tests, participate in code reviews, uphold engineering standards.
• Incident response — Participate in on-call rotation, lead root-cause analysis, and turn incidents into durable fixes.
• Collaboration — Work with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence to understand new components.
