Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to keep the NBA platform healthy, reliable, and maintainable.

You will work across the Java/Drools rules engine, the React/Node/Postgres action library, the Node.js and Temporal orchestration, the Kafka event backbone, and the Databricks decisioning pipelines to diagnose issues, improve reliability and performance, and implement focused features where needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Ability to read, debug, and extend code in Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of APIs, event-driven patterns, asynchronous processing, and failure handling.
• Hands-on observability experience: structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure (Azure or equivalent) with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Maintenance-focused mindset: clean, well-documented code and operational health are priorities.
• Clear communicator who can explain complex systems or incidents to engineers and non-engineers alike.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Stack Maintenance — maintain and support services across the full platform.
• Reliability Engineering — monitor health, investigate issues, and resolve bottlenecks and scaling constraints.
• Feature Implementation — design and ship focused features and improvements across components.
• Observability — extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for production visibility.
• Performance and scale — profile and tune components under load and ensure reliable growth.
• Quality — write tests, participate in code reviews, uphold engineering standards.
• Incident response — participate in on-call, lead root-cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.
• Collaboration — work with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence teams on long-term ownership.
