Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Corporation seeks a Senior Platforms Engineer for the Refining IT Edge team. You will design, evolve, and govern secure, scalable hybrid and multi-cloud platforms, emphasizing automation through Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and policy-driven infrastructure to ensure consistency, speed, and reliability across environments.

The role leads cross-functional programs, vendor partnerships, and modernization efforts while balancing technical, operational, and business priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant experience required.
• Experience racking infrastructure hardware (Dell/HP) preferred.
• Experience with cloud integrations (Azure, AWS) preferred.
• Experience in backup and recovery strategies and disaster recovery.

Responsibilities

• Identifies performance bottlenecks and proposes solutions to optimize platform performance.
• Leads troubleshooting, escalation handling, and cross-team collaboration.
• Designs and governs scalable, secure hybrid and multi-cloud platforms.
• Drives infrastructure automation with IaC, CI/CD, and policy-driven practices.
• Mentors engineers and influences cross-functional teams to meet goals.
