Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Corporation seeks a Senior Platforms Engineer for the Refining IT Edge team to design, govern, and modernize secure hybrid and multi-cloud platforms. You will drive automation through Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD, lead cross-functional programs, and partner with vendors to achieve measurable outcomes.

The role emphasizes cloud architecture, data center and edge technologies, and resilient, observable platforms with strong cybersecurity practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent experience preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant experience required.
• Experience racking infrastructure hardware such as Dell, Hewlett Packard, or others required.
• Experience in managing and supporting server infrastructure including Linux, Windows Server, VMware, Hyper‑V/Nutanix, and storage systems required.
• Experience architecting integrations with Cloud based systems such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or others preferred.
• Experience in backup and recovery strategies and systems such as Rubrik to include familiarity with backup architecture and disaster recovery exercises preferred.
• Proven ownership of large-scale initiatives preferred (e.g., enterprise cloud migrations, data center transformations, or hybrid cloud implementations).
• Experience operating in regulated or complex environments preferred (security, compliance, uptime requirements).

Responsibilities

• Identifies performance bottlenecks, conducts root cause analysis, and proposes solutions to enhance platform and system performance.
• Contributes to troubleshooting procedure improvements and reduces downtime.
• Leads disaster recovery planning and testing with automated, resilient platforms.
• Analyzes performance data and recommends optimizations for continuous improvements.
• Leads design and configuration of complex platforms and systems across data centers, cloud, containers, and edge technologies.
• Drives modernization and aligns infrastructure strategy with business goals.
• Leads cross-functional programs and vendor partnerships to deliver end-to-end ownership and measurable outcomes.
• Maintains comprehensive knowledge base with guides, documentation, and best practices.
