Job summary

Altana is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to be the technical authority for the platform powering our multi-cloud, multi-tenant product network. You will drive architecture across organizations, own the reference architecture across AWS and Azure, and define patterns for engineering teams to build against.

You will join the Platform Engineering leadership, guide cross-cutting platform concerns, and work with security/compliance to ensure accreditation is designed in.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating cloud infrastructure and platforms.
• Strong background in SRE or platform engineering with ownership of shared systems.
• Production experience in AWS/Azure at multi-account, multi-environment scale.
• Proficient with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/OpenTofu).
• Deep Kubernetes expertise and multi-cluster operations.
• GitOps deployment using ArgoCD or Flux in production.
• Hands-on AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools experience.
• Awareness of regulatory/accreditation constraints shaping architecture.
• Proficient in Python or Go; proven architectural influence across teams.
• Clear long-term cost, delivery, and product impact reasoning.

Responsibilities

• Drive cross-organizational architectural decisions and forums; shape platform standards.
• Own platform reference architecture across AWS/Azure and regulatory environments.
• Translate strategy into technical area plans and communicate tradeoffs to leadership.
• Lead architecture for core platform concerns: ingress, auth, SSO/RBAC, service-to-service comms.
• Design provisioning for new environments/tenants to be repeatable and scalable.
• Set standards for IaC, GitOps, Kubernetes, and release engineering; drive adoption.
• Create and run forums for senior engineers and design reviews; align delivery quality.
• Partner with product, finance, and implementation teams before commitments.
• Write and prototype hard platform components and POCs to de-risk directions.
• Collaborate with Security/Compliance to bake accreditation into platform design.
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar toward staff/principal levels.
• Participate in hiring and represent Altana externally.
