Job summary

Altana is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to be the technical authority for the platform our products run on. This senior individual contributor role reports to the Senior Director of Platform Engineering and shapes architecture across the company to accelerate secure product delivery.

You will own the platform reference architecture across AWS and Azure, set IaC and GitOps standards, mentor engineers, and partner with Security and Compliance to meet accreditation needs.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating cloud infrastructure and platforms
• Experience as a technical authority for a platform used by multiple teams
• Production experience in AWS and Azure at multi-account, multi-environment scale
• Strong Infrastructure as Code skills with Terraform/OpenTofu or similar tools
• Deep Kubernetes experience including multi-cluster management
• GitOps with ArgoCD/Flux in production
• Hands-on with AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools
• Understanding of regulatory/accreditation constraints in architecture
• Proficient in Python or Go
• Track record of architecture adoption across teams
• Cost-awareness in architectural decisions

Responsibilities

• Drive architecture across multiple organizations and forums
• Own the platform reference architecture across AWS and Azure for commercial, regulated, and sovereign environments
• Translate company strategy into area-level technical strategy with clear tradeoffs
• Lead architecture for cross-cutting platform concerns (ingress, API gateway, auth, SSO, RBAC)
• Design provisioning paths for new environments and tenants
• Set standards for IaC, GitOps, Kubernetes configurations, and release engineering
• Create and run forums to align senior engineers and drive design reviews
• Partner with product, implementation, and finance on approaches and costs
• Write and prototype hard parts and proofs of concept
• Collaborate with Security and Compliance to bake accreditation into platform
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar toward staff/principal levels
• Assist with interviewing and hiring for senior/leadership roles
