Job summary

Intuit is seeking a Staff Payroll Tax Processor to resolve complex state and federal payroll tax notices and to lead resolution efforts across Notices, Corrections, and Amendments. The role demands deep expertise, coaching abilities, and process improvement focus.

As a technical lead, you will own the most challenging cases, mentor teammates, and author SOPs/KBs. Remote, part-time with 20–40 hours weekly; overtime eligibility applies.

Qualifications

• 4+ years blasting payroll tax experience with tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of state and federal payroll tax notice types; able to draft penalty abatement requests and agency responses.
• Hands-on experience preparing amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (Form 941-X, W-2c).
• Advanced Excel skills for reconciliation and audit trails.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices in the team’s queue across multiple quarters and states.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (Form 941-X, W-2c) across 10+ states end-to-end.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors spanning multiple pay periods or jurisdictions; drive correction workflow to resolution.
• Coach and mentor Senior Payroll Tax Processors and share knowledge to build team capability.
• Author, review, and update SOPs and KB articles; identify recurring errors and propose fixes.
• Collaborate with Corrections, Amendments, Pay & File, and Tax Notice teams to resolve issues end-to-end.
