Intuit is seeking a Senior Payroll Tax SME to lead complex tax defect resolution for state and federal notices and amended returns. The role focuses on solving hard problems, coaching teammates, and improving processes to deliver quality resolutions to customers.

The position is remote with flexible hours, offering a base pay and eligibility for bonuses and equity per Intuit plans. You will own high-complexity cases and drive cross-functional collaboration to improve operations.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of state and federal payroll tax notices; able to draft agency responses with documentation.
• Hands-on experience preparing/amending Federal and State payroll tax returns (e.g., Form 941-X, W-2c).
• Deep knowledge of FICA, FUTA, FITW, and local tax rules; strong Excel reconciliation skills.
• Experience leading or mentoring junior staff in complex resolution scenarios.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex state and federal payroll tax notices end-to-end, from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended payroll tax returns across 10+ states; reconcile to original returns.
• Diagnose and fix payroll tax errors across multiple periods and jurisdictions.
• Maintain high productivity resolving correction and amendment requests with accuracy.
• Coach and mentor teammates; share knowledge to build team capability and reduce dependency.
• Author and update SOPs/KB articles; identify recurring issues and drive improvements.
• Collaborate with Corrections, Amendments, Pay & File, and Tax Notice teams to resolve intertwined issues.
