Job summary

ARCO Companies in St. Louis, MO seeks a Payroll Lead to provide hands-on support across payroll operations and payroll tax, partnering with the Payroll Operations Manager and Payroll Tax Manager to resolve complex issues and meet deadlines.

Initially no direct reports, the role may assume formal leadership as needs evolve. The position requires multi-state payroll experience, tax knowledge, and advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.

Qualifications

• Progressive payroll experience in multi-state environments.
• Hands-on payroll processing and payroll tax experience.
• Strong payroll controls, balancing, and issue resolution.
• In-depth federal, state, and local payroll tax knowledge.
• Experience supporting multiple entities and FEINs.
• Ability to analyze, research, and resolve complex issues.
• W-2 reporting and year-end payroll experience.
• Payroll process improvement and project leadership.
• Advanced Excel for analysis and reports.
• Excellent communication and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Lead payroll processing, balancing, and deadline adherence.
• Resolve complex payroll discrepancies and associate pay concerns.
• Support payroll tax activities and regulatory changes.
• Develop and maintain payroll procedures, controls, and checklists.
