Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience.
• Strong Workday Payroll experience, including processing, auditing, troubleshooting, reporting and maintenance.
• Experience with multi-state payroll and understanding of state/local requirements.
• Solid payroll fundamentals: time and attendance, overtime, taxes, deductions, garnishments, accruals, manual checks and reconciliations.
• Experience supporting a large hourly workforce; union payroll experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements; ability to partner with a tax provider; Canadian payroll exposure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end processing of bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for ~540 hourly employees across 20+ states; some salaried payroll support.
• Process and reconcile payroll in Workday: time and attendance, earnings, deductions, direct deposits, garnishments, changes, hires, terminations, manual payments.
• Audit payroll prior to transmission; identify discrepancies and resolve missed/incorrect payments.
• Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, local, and provincial requirements; coordinate with third-party tax provider.
• Reconcile time and attendance, research variances, and correct discrepancies with managers.
• Maintain Workday setup: earning/deduction codes, tax tables, job/department data, bonus plans, time and labor configurations.
• Respond to employee and manager payroll questions with urgency; resolve pay, deduction, tax, and timekeeping issues.
• Support payroll audits, reporting, garnishments, accruals, tax notices, workers' comp, and other compliance activities.
• Document and improve payroll processes; develop standard work and training materials; train staff.
• Support payroll-related projects including Workday configuration, acquisitions, reorganizations, frequency changes, process improvements.
