Job summary

Maryland Oncology Hematology is seeking a Patient Financial Advocate to educate patients on insurance coverage and benefits and help navigate financial assistance options. You will verify eligibility, gather information, and support the billing team to ensure accurate pre-authorizations and smooth financial interactions with patients across MOH’s Maryland sites.

The role requires strong verbal communication, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and familiarity with CPT/HCPCS coding.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum three (3) years in patient pre-services coordination or equivalent.
• Demonstrate knowledge of CPT coding and HCPCS coding application.
• Must be able to verbally communicate clearly and utilize the appropriate and correct terminology.
• Must successfully complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying position.

Responsibilities

• Educate patients on insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses; discuss payment arrangements and financial assistance options.
• Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral approval codes prior to each treatment.
• Review patient account balances and notify front desk of patients to meet with.
• Ensure patient co-pay amount is correctly entered into the system and conveyed to front desk.
• Verify and update demographics and insurance coverage at each patient visit.
• Develop relationships with financial aide providers and stay current on available financial aid.
